Phil's Storm Chasing Logs from 2016
2016 was the first time I have been on an organized Storm Chase since VORTEX 2 in 2010. I once again met up with Randy Baker and picked up some new friends Brian Fischer and Steven Peak.
  • May 21, 2016 - Everyone met up and spent the night in the KC area to be in place for tomorrow's chase.

  • May 22, 2016 - Our first official chase day in southern Nebraska. Saw some hail and a rainbow but that was about it.

  • May 23, 2016 - A very successful day in western Oklahoma. Saw 5 tornado touchdowns and 3 inch hail that damaged the windshield. Ok maybe that last part wasn't successful.

  • May 24, 2016 - Huge bust day in the Oklahoma panhandle and southwest Kansas. Meanwhile, major tornadoes occurred with a storm to our northeast.

  • May 25, 2016 - Almost a bust. After targeting Wichita drove 90 minutes to catch the dying tornado east of Enterprise, Kansas.

  • May 26, 2016 - Moderate Risk day with fairly unimpressive storms considering the Moderate Risk that was expected. Caught some good structure shots of a storm near Ashland and south of Greensburg during the early evening and some shots near sunset to salvage something out of the day.

  • May 27, 2016 - Not a great setup for tornadoes, however we do see some good structure in northern Oklahoma before storms become linear and track east.

  • May 28, 2016 - Our last day together as we head home from Joplin, MO.

  • August 23, 2016 - An impromptu chase while out in the Omaha, NE area with Evan Bookbinder.
