Phil's Storm Chasing Logs from 2006
Although brief and weak...2006 was the year I saw my first tornado. The super storm chase group of 2005 was broken up into one van consisting of myself...Matt Ziebell...Randy Baker...Kirk Swain and Mark Rader.  In addition to catching a tornado...we saw a killer lightning show as the storm chased us southward to Lexington, Nebraska. Click on the links below to see the chase logs from these days.
  • June 3-4, 2006 - Met up with the chase group and had our first bust day in Nebraska.

  • June 5, 2006 - Missed a brief tornado spin up in South Dakota with very photogenic clouds on the way back.

  • June 6, 2006 - Drove to Colorado expecting the upslope to aid convection. Only caught some dust devils as the convection did not make it very far east.

  • June 7, 2006 - A cluster of storms develops into a Supercell over central Nebraska with a tornado near Arnold. A great lightning show ensues later that night.

  • June 8, 2006 - Another bust day in north central Nebraska as temperatures topped the century mark.

  • June 9, 2006 - Although the storms did not develop as planned a few quick gustnadoes were observed in Northwest Iowa.

  • June 10, 2006 - Last chase day was a semi bust with lightning show on the way back through Missouri. Includes a video summary of the entire chase set to music.

  • June 18, 2006 - Large cell to the southeast of Green Bay provided great Mammatus clouds.

  • September 2, 2006 - Very interesting clouds that turn out to be scud.
