Phil's Storm Chasing Logs from 2005
2005 was the year of the super storm chasing group as it took 2 vans for everyone to come along.  I went chasing with my chase partner from 2004 Matt Ziebell as well as Steve Mirsky...Randy Baker...Steve Mills...Kirk Swain and Mark Rader.  We travelled far and wide from Nebraska to New Mexico this year.  Based on lessons learned from previous years I invested in a digital camera which yielded much better pictures.  Although we did not catch a tornado this year we saw some great structure and one bust day in Nebraska provided me with a case study that was included in a research paper. The people I chased with this year would end up being good friends and chase partners for many years to come. Click on the links below to see the chase logs from these days.
  • May 20-21, 2005 - Driving to Kansas with our first bust day.

  • May 22, 2005 - Driving to Oklahoma for our second bust day.

  • May 23, 2005 - Our first day with storms as upslope brings us to northeast Colorado.

  • May 24, 2005 - A very active day with upslope in northeast colorado and southwest Nebraska as a gustnado is spotted.

  • May 25, 2005 - Upslope action heads south to New Mexico as another supercell develops.

  • May 26, 2005 - The third bust day as we spend the time at Sandia Peak near Albuquerque.

  • May 27, 2005 - A big supercell develops in New Mexico as we watch the storm that brings hail to Las Vegas.

  • May 28, 2005 - Last day a bust day but a very worthwhile trip nonetheless. Includes a video summary set to music of the entire chase.
