Phil's Storm Chasing Logs from 2008
2008 was an action packed year to say the least. After storm chasing for several years I finally attended the National Storm Chaser Convention held in Denver, Colorado. A few months later I was able to make it to the plains to take advantage of the tornado outbreak across Kansas despite my upcoming move to Michigan. May 22 and 23rd proved to be intense storm chasing days as I witnessed 6 tornadoes during these days with a few close calls as we were too close to the action on a few occasions.  We had the same crew from last year of Randy Baker...Kirk Swain...Mark Rader  and Dave Inmon.  Click on the links below to see the chase logs from these days.
  • February 16-17, 2008 - The 10th Annual National Storm Chaser Convention.

  • May 22, 2008 - Multiple tornado sightings in Kansas as several supercells interact with a warm front. Includes video of the Grainfield and WaKeeney Tornadoes.

  • May 23, 2008 - Multiple tornado sightings in Kansas with a similar setup from the previous day.

  • May 24, 2008 - Chased a fast moving supercell in Nebraska and caught a brief funnel cloud.  Includes video of the funnel cloud.

  • May 25, 2008 - Wrap up the chase week with some convection east of KC.

  • June 2, 2008 - Caught a shelf cloud outside my house.
